“When you're left wounded on

Afganistan's plains and

the women come out to cut up what remains,

Just roll to your rifle

and blow out your brains,

And go to your God like a soldier”

“We are not retreating. We are advancing in another direction.”

“It is fatal to enter any war without the will to win it.”

“Old soldiers never die; they just fade away.

“The soldier, above all other people, prays for peace,

for he must suffer and be the deepest wounds and scars of war.”

“May God have mercy upon my enemies, because I won't .”
“The object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other bastard die for his.

“Nobody ever defended anything successfully, there is only attack and attack and attack some more.

“Fixed fortifications are a monument to the stupidity of man."
“It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died.
Rather we should thank God that such men lived.

The Soldier stood and faced God

Which must always come to pass

He hoped his shoes were shining

Just as bright as his brass

"Step forward you Soldier,

How shall I deal with you?

Have you always turned the other cheek?

To My Church have you been true?"

"No, Lord, I guess I ain't

Because those of us who carry guns

Can't always be a saint."

I've had to work on Sundays

And at times my talk was tough,

And sometimes I've been violent,

Because the world is awfully rough.

But, I never took a penny

That wasn't mine to keep.

Though I worked a lot of overtime

When the bills got just too steep,

The Soldier squared his shoulders and said

And I never passed a cry for help

Though at times I shook with fear,

And sometimes, God forgive me,

I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place

Among the people here.

They never wanted me around

Except to calm their fears.

If you've a place for me here,

Lord, It needn't be so grand,

I never expected or had too much,

But if you don't, I'll understand."

There was silence all around the throne

Where the saints had often trod

As the Soldier waited quietly,

For the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, you Soldier,

You've borne your burden well.

Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,

You've done your time in Hell."

Bagging 5 CT's at the Korbu Forest Reserve in Perak
Sunday, June 24, 2007
7th Battalion Rangers was carrying out Operation Gonzales around Jalong, Perak on the 8th April 1974 until 1st may 1974.
The soldiers who killed the 5 enemy got nothing in the shape of awards or recognition. Unlike pretenders to the Sauk Incident. This operation was a search and destroy operation. On the 21st April 1974 at around 1100 hrs (11.00 o'clock am) two soldiers were fired upon by the Enemy who were three to four strong. The soldiers immediately took cover and returned bursts of fire. There was an intense exchange of fire. The two soldiers who tried their utmost to kill the enemy were unsuccessful. The Enemy managed to successfully conduct a fighting withdrawal.
Visibility was restricted due to the thick foliage and undergrowth. They did not have a clear shot at the Enemy. Charlie Company was quickly deployed to act as cut offs. On the same day at around 1700 hrs (5 o'clock pm) whilst No 7 Platoon was conducting a fighting patrol, came across a sign, an arrow made of bamboo, this arrow was embedded in the earth. With this finding No.7 platoon decided to conduct an ambush in that particular area, they set up the killing area with 4 Claymore mines. This was reinforced with two light machine guns.

A Claymore Mine
On the 22nd April 1974 at around 1150 hrs (11.50 am), the ambush party saw 5 Communist terrorists enter into the killing area. When two of the enemy were in the killing area 930376 Rgr Shaifudin fired two claymore mines and killed two of them instantly. At that instant two more claymores were fired by Lance Corporal Gaison which wounded the rest of the Communists. Without delaying 928104 Sergeant Harris reacted by racing towards the killing area with another section (10 men) with the intention of forming a cut off. He and his men attacked the remaining Enemy. They killed the Enemy who were taken by surprise.
The Enemy never stood a chance, against the determined force of 7th Rangers men. This successful encounter totalled 5 Enemy KIAs.
