“When you're left wounded on

Afganistan's plains and

the women come out to cut up what remains,

Just roll to your rifle

and blow out your brains,

And go to your God like a soldier”

“We are not retreating. We are advancing in another direction.”

“It is fatal to enter any war without the will to win it.”

“Old soldiers never die; they just fade away.

“The soldier, above all other people, prays for peace,

for he must suffer and be the deepest wounds and scars of war.”

“May God have mercy upon my enemies, because I won't .”
“The object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other bastard die for his.

“Nobody ever defended anything successfully, there is only attack and attack and attack some more.

“Fixed fortifications are a monument to the stupidity of man."
“It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died.
Rather we should thank God that such men lived.

The Soldier stood and faced God

Which must always come to pass

Photobucket
He hoped his shoes were shining

Just as bright as his brass

"Step forward you Soldier,

How shall I deal with you?

Have you always turned the other cheek?

To My Church have you been true?"

"No, Lord, I guess I ain't

Because those of us who carry guns

Can't always be a saint."

I've had to work on Sundays

And at times my talk was tough,

And sometimes I've been violent,

Because the world is awfully rough.

But, I never took a penny

That wasn't mine to keep.

Though I worked a lot of overtime

When the bills got just too steep,

The Soldier squared his shoulders and said

And I never passed a cry for help

Though at times I shook with fear,

And sometimes, God forgive me,

I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place

Among the people here.

They never wanted me around

Except to calm their fears.

If you've a place for me here,

Lord, It needn't be so grand,

I never expected or had too much,

But if you don't, I'll understand."

There was silence all around the throne

Where the saints had often trod

As the Soldier waited quietly,

For the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, you Soldier,

You've borne your burden well.

Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,

You've done your time in Hell."

History of the 9th Battalion Royal Ranger Battalion - Part 1
Thursday, July 20, 2006
The 9th Battalion of the Ranger Regiment, originated from the 14th Malaysian Territorial Army, which was formed on the 1st April 1971 in Tawau, Sabah. The members of this battalion were locals who were members of the Local Defence Force. The original purpose was that Sabah wanted to have a Military unit specially made up of Sabahans. The Army had it’s own purpose where it converted the 14th MTA Battalion into a regualr unit by converting it into the 9th Battalion Rangers on the 1st of March 1979, at the Batu Uban Camp in Penang. The motto of the this new Ranger Battalion was “Sian Bani Manang”, which in the Bajau language, meant “Who Dares Wins”.

2. During that time, to fill up the strength of the battalion, mobilised as well as regular soldiers form Penisular Malaysia were absorbed into the unit. The stae government was under the Chief Minister Tun Datu Mustaffa Harun, he was willing to finance the equipment and material for this battalion. This offer by the Chief minister was turned down by the Fedral Government, as it would make that battalion into the “Army of Sabah”.

3.14 MTA wasconverted into 9th rangers in line with the Army’s expansion plan on the 1st March 1979 at the Batu Uban Camp on the island of Penang.

History of the Camp

This camp in Taiping was built in 1870, which became the headquarters of the Perak Military Police . In the year, a titled person, Ngah Ibrahim hired cpatin Speedy to enforce laws on the coming of the Chinese labour for use in the tin mines. The camp was named “Perak Armed Police”, after which was changed to “1st Perak Sikhs”. In 1896 under the Federated Malay States, the name of the camp was once again changed to the “Malay States Guides’, which particiapted with Aden’s Field Forces during the First World War, fighting in Turkey.

In 1919, the “Malay States Guides” was abolished and replaced with Army of Burma under the British Raj in India until the end of World War 2. After the war the camp was renamed once again as, “ Town Barrack Camp”. The statue of Colonel Walker which was kept at the guardhouse was handed over to the Taiping Museum.
